In an era where sustainability is at the forefront of global discussions, companies are navigating a transformative landscape, redefining their practices to meet the growing demand for transparency and eco-consciousness. In this edition of At the Mill with SENSIL®, we are proud to approach the sustainable initiatives of Getzner Textil, a company deeply committed to weaving environmental responsibility into its corporate fabric.
Getzner Textil’s groundbreaking fabric collections feature Sensil® Breeze and the latest NILIT’s technology, SENSIL® Toughtex, through an examination of the strategic importance of partnerships in promoting sustainability across the textile value chain.
The topic of sustainability is experiencing a historic revolution. There is a need for more transparency and respect for the end consumer. What are your thoughts on this? How is your company addressing this issue?
Sustainability encompasses several areas – the social and the ecological aspect, as well as sustainable corporate management, Getzner Textil has made it its business to pay attention to the protection of people, the environment, and resources. Ecology and sustainability are core elements of our corporate philosophy. Innovative projects have been implemented for decades, such as the installation of a district heating network in 2001, which has since supplied numerous public buildings in the surrounding area with heat. The company owns hydroelectric power plants that cover over 90 percent of Getzner Textil AG’s electricity requirements. In addition, our modern lye recovery plant enables resource-saving production and a saving of around 70 percent in the lye used.

How important is it today to get the story behind your fabrics to the end customer? Are brands willing to finalize this communication?
Communicating the story behind textiles, especially in the context of sustainability is crucial today. Consumers increasingly value transparent information regarding the origin, production methods and environmental impact of textiles. Brands recognise this shift in consumer behavior and are therefore keen to intensify communication about sustainable practices. Integrating sustainability aspects into communication builds trust, strengthens brand loyalty and meets the growing expectations for ethical and environmentally friendly behavior.
Companies that proactively address sustainable practices can gain a competitive advantage and strengthen the trust of their customers.
In a market flooded with cheap products, there is a need to shout out your diversity through an honest and clear narrative. What are your thoughts on this?
Authentic storytelling: To stand out in a saturated market, it is crucial to tell your brand’s story authentically. This includes unique attributes such as the longevity, values and experiences that set the products apart.
Transparency: Honesty is key. Transparency about the origin, ingredients, and manufacturing processes of the products. This builds trust with consumers who are increasingly looking for ethical and sustainable products.
Quality over quantity: You must focus on delivering high quality products. The production, durability and long-term value of the products must be emphasized.
Customer education: to enlighten the customer about the benefits of the products and the values that a brand embodies is very crucial. It is important to help the customer make an informed decision.
At the A+A trade show you presented fabric collections featuring SENSIL® Breeze recycled and SENSIL® Toughtex recycled. Can you reveal anything about them to us?
Getzner Textil is presenting innovative fabrics from its sustainable collection for the first time at A+A. Consciously used yarn alternatives from renewable resources as well as from secondary raw materials are the focus of the material selection here. The fabrics developed are characterized by a high level of wearer comfort and are light, elastic, breathable, quick-drying and hard-wearing – making them particularly suitable for use in the field of protective workwear and outdoor clothing and offering a sustainable, long-lasting fabric solution without compromising on quality and functionality.
In addition to bio-based yarns, Getzner Textil’s sustainable collection also includes functional fabrics made of recycled polyamide from pre- and post-consumer materials and in combination with organic cotton. “A lot is happening in the area of sustainability at the moment and textile innovations are the order of the day. With our know-how and one of the largest and most modern laboratories in our field, we position ourselves as an innovative solution partner for our customers.” says Barbara Paul, development coordinator.
